photos of a recent untitled installation at PAFA, 20ft x 12ft x 9ft, 52 smashed VHS Tapes, 20x12 black plastic drop cloth, 4ftx4ft pulsing multicolored light panel, strobe light, pink light bulb, polyurethane spray foam, 6ftx3ft3ft vomiting foam dragon, 6ft x 3ft light panel orange and black latex body paint, 6ft x 3ft light panel blue cupper sulfate crystals, 22 mirrors along the floors, fans moving arustling tape
part of the effect of the room was the walking and crunching through tapes, this installation was kind of an amalgamation of several sculpture projects I was working on this semester so it doesn’t really feel like a finished work to me but I think it’s opening up doors for a lot better considered installation work in the coming year
I’ll have some video footage up soon
Spirit Lightning, recovered rubber mold, fluorescent light tubes, dimensions variable, 2013
Gonna do nice individual shots and post construction shots/explanations of individual pieces once I get a nice photographer in the studio, but this is whats kicking around this semester, grad school is a blast so far!
Rotted Fruit is Sweetest, 3.5in x 6in x 3in, Wires, 2 yellow LEDs, Plastic work light cage, electrical tape, t-pins, polyurethane spray foam, liquid latex, latex house paint, canvas 2013
This piece was recently donated as part of a show raising money for the homeless women of Philadelphia, hopefully it looks nice in its new home!
PAFA Open Studio Night 2013 (by Anthony Ciambella) A tasteful partial nude of the artist in his studio at 8minutes in during PAFAs Open Studio Night 2013, before the infamous balloon popping performance piece Bitter Tantrum began
some shots of stuff kicking around the studio that I’m just working on now
6ft x 2.5ft x 2.5ft polyurethane spray foam, spray paint, liquid latex, 8in steel screws
Disruption II
a few shots of the final form of this piece taken by my friend Alex
Engorged, 5ft x 3.5ft x 3.5ft, steel, liquid latex, acrylic paint, spray paint, clip lights, rubber hosing, plastic tubing, plastic sheeting, polyurethane spray foam
This piece was just exhibited in the PAFA Gallery 128, unfortunately due to restrictions it couldn’t be lit up in the gallery, it sits on a mobile metal dolly so it can move around pretty easily
a lot of fun to make it at all levels, the welding, the wrapping, the slathering on of latex
24x24x4-Liquid Latex, Vending Machine Capsules, LED Christmas Light Strand, silkscreen ink, acrylic paint
New piece that I just mostly completed this week, as of now untitled, there’s a little work I want to do on the sides because I’m not sure if the bubbles should continue onto them or not and I’d like to attach a timer and maybe some kind of fader to the lights to make them gently pulse(any suggestions?)
1st photo is step one laying it out, 2 is the second coat of latex affixing the capsules, 3rd is the first light up, next two are some close ups I did as I was painting the bulbs and the last few are some shots my friend Alex took when I put it up
A small metal piece I made from scrap kind of as a study for a larger piece I had an idea for, its in the process of getting made and it’s going to be on wheels and have lights, it’s gonna get crazy. Welding is so much fun.
